Top 5 Hidden Coves to Explore in the Dodecanese
The Dodecanese is famous for its busy harbours and golden sunsets, but the real magic hides just out of reach of the ferries. With a RIB or a skippered charter, you can drop anchor in turquoise water with nothing around you but limestone cliffs and the occasional goat.
1. Marathi (just off Patmos) — A pocket-sized cove with a single taverna and the kind of calm, sheltered water that’s perfect for swimming with kids.
2. Aspri Cove, Leros — White pebbles, a sandy seabed, and shelter from the meltemi when it picks up in August.
3. Kalapodia, Lipsi — Three tiny inlets in a row. Anchor at the middle one and snorkel between them.
4. Geranou Beach, Patmos — Reachable by road, but far more memorable from the sea — the contrast of pine, rock and blue is hard to beat.
5. Tiganakia, Arki — A natural pool the colour of an aquarium; bring an underwater camera.
